Healing Water of Pamukkale

Pamukkale is located in the Denizli region, on the slopes of the Küçük Çökelez Mountain on the Çürüksu Valley side. Pamukkale is well-known for its natural beauty, ancient ruins and unique travertines created by fascinating calcareous healing water. Travertine is a kind of rock which is formed as calcium bicarbonate. It precipitates out of hot spring water which flows to the top of the cascades by a 320-meter-long channel. Travertines that look like cotton heaps give Pamukkale, its name: Cotton Castle. Also, as an excellent source of health, this touristic place created a natural miracle with hundreds of pools which have a temperature between 35 and 100 degrees. There are snow-white landscape of terraced pools and small waterfalls. However, it’s forbidden to walk through the travertines with shoes.

The medical characteristics of the healing water, has known since the ancient times. This healing water is good for heart and nerve complaints, hardening of the arteries, high blood pressure, rheumatism, skin diseases, eye diseases, bladder problems, nephritis and paralysis. Furthermore, when the water is drunk while warm, it’s good for gastric spasms. Pamukkale, attracted people for its old travertine and healing water, is waiting for you. Because, simply it worths visiting.
